Po-Mo(em)
Hello.
Here is a poem for your
listening pleasure.
Enjoy or die!
Buyer Beware
Plastic and concrete walls of reinforced
irony, the enclaves of public privacy,
isolation in sporadically dispersed gatherings,
form over content. content to buy and sell
no longer products nor even ideas but identity.
Noen sheen, fluorescent hum of mediocre
mantras, devoid of substance, quality is quantity
less and less is more and more
Did we even notice when we were plugged in,
fuel for the engine, walking advertisements,
company placeholders, filling seats in the
theatre of industry
The (industrial) revolution will be televised,
marketed and given a soundtrack.
Freedom of choice is a matter of brand loyalty
Freedom of speech in 30 second intervals.
It's a slow entropy, a pervasive cancer
of barcodes and sales flyers
image replaces meaning
products for living
became life as product
We sold our dignity
traded our self control for store credit,
our outrage for "outrageously low prices!"
Can we turn back now, on the brink
of losing the last shred of humanity not yet
attached to a logo? Armageddon brought to you
by Coke, Genocide sponsored by Nike,
Planetary Extinction a Time/Warner production.
